What’s in season in August? Try vegan & vegetarian recipes with plump blackberries, sweet plums, bold peppers and leafy greens. August explodes with flavor!

Bold Blackberries
If you have access to pick blackberries right from the bush: do that! But for the rest of us, we can use the heaps of grocery store blackberries to make amaaaazing and easy dishes. From breakfast, to salads, to sweets: blackberries can do it all.

Poppin’ Peppers
There is life beyond green bell peppers, my friend! Try roasted red, blistered shishito, roasted jalapeño and green Chile stew to marvel at the depth of flavor. Tip: using your knife tip to scrape out the seeds & white “ribs” inside will reduce the heat in a spicy pepper. Just wash your hands after! I was terrified of melting my face off by eating poblano peppers… until I learned that trick. Now roasted poblanos are a family favorite!
Perfect Plums
I love biting into a ripe, juicy, summer plum! If you can stop yourself from eating them ALL on the front porch – juice running down your forearms – turn that summer bounty into amazing baked plum dishes. YUM YUM YUM!
Lovely Leafy Greens
The beautiful leaves of lettuces and other greens have been soaking up the summer sun and rain, and are perfection right now. This last collection of August recipes moves beyond iceberg & romaine. Maybe you’ve stood in the grocery store feeling curious – but unsure – about delicate microgreens, huge rainbow chard and peppery arugula & watercress. Now is your chance to try something new!
